Lauretta McNeil

Lauretta was born in Banff, Alberta
where she spent her formative years
before the family moved to Calgary.

While raising her own family and developing her business career,
she attended various evening workshops including
drawing, pastels, and oil painting.
Further courses in figure drawing and watercolor at the UofC and ACAD
enhanced her interest but her first love has always been oil painting.

Upon early retirement from
an international brokerage firm,
Lauretta committed to developing her
oil painting skills in earnest.

Lauretta's childhood in Banff gave her a deep appreciation of the everchanging magic
of the Rocky Mountains and
the beauty of nature all around her.
It's that magical feeling that she endeavors
to translate into all of her compositions,
be they of mountains, flowers, or figures.

Working from her own photos, she tries to enhance
the moments as she felt them at the time
using her love of pure color and strong contrasts.
She loves the challenge of taking a simple composition
and translating it into something magical,
with a touch of whimsy.
