Joining CAS

The Calgary Artists' Society limits the size of its membership to about fifty artists. Membership applications are placed on a wait-list, and when vacancies arise, new members are chosen from the wait-list through a jury process. This is scheduled on an as-required basis, and may only occur once every two years or so. All applicants will be contacted at that time.

The jury process is done by a guest artist who is not a member of the CAS.

Applicants will be required to submit 5 to 6 pieces of original artwork which have recently been completed and done by hand. Our mandate supports two dimensional work in a wide variety of media including watercolour, oil, acrylic, graphite, charcoal and mixed media. All work must be hand executed (i.e. no photography, no digital art). Although it is not mandatory that the artwork be framed, applicants are advised that presentation will be taken into account. A non-refundable jury fee will apply.

The Calgary Artists' Society is a non-profit group and all business conducted is done through the volunteer effort of its members. New members will be selected based on artistic merit as well as a willingness to serve the group. Attributes like enthusiasm, and any applicable experience such as marketing, social media expertise, accounting, photography and computer skills will also be taken into consideration.

Applicants accepted for membership must pay membership dues of $80.00 upon admission to the Society.
